Professor Amira Martin-Saltsman, LCSW-R
Founder and CEO, MA Therapy, LLC
Professor Amira Martin-Saltsman, LCSW-R, is a licensed clinical social worker, educator, and Founder and CEO of MA Therapy, LLC, a mental health organization grounded in culturally responsive, evidence based care. With more than two decades of experience across hospital systems, nonprofit agencies, higher education, and private practice, she brings both clinical depth and executive leadership to her work. She currently teaches at Columbia University School of Social Work and beginning in 2025 serves as a Board Member with NAMI, advancing her commitment to mental health equity and community impact.
A proud CUNY graduate, she earned her B.A. from Lehman College and her M.S.W. from Hunter College before launching MA Therapy in 2011. What began as a vision to provide inclusive therapy has grown into a respected organization offering clinical services, keynote speaking, professional training, and transformative programming.
MA Therapy, LLC includes three divisions: Amira for Her at https://amiraforher.com, Amira for Him at https://amiraforhim.com, and Amira for Them at https://amiraforthem.com. In addition to direct clinical services, we partner with organizations and universities to provide therapy and counseling services to their students as well as training and professional development for staff. We also provide services through The Healing Space at https://amirathehealingspace.com (via contract with SUNY Oneonta). And provide training and workshops for providers looking to improve their skill set.
Since 2002, I have dedicated my life to the field of mental health. I am the fifth of my parents’ seven children, born and raised in the Bronx, New York. I have lived throughout New York City, including the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens, and I now reside in Western New York. Growing up in a large family shaped how I understand voice, conflict, love, and resilience. It taught me how to listen closely, how to hold space, and how to advocate. Those lessons continue to guide me in every therapy session.
Clinical work
I am trained in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. My approach is thoughtful, intuitive, and tailored to each person I work with. I do not believe in one size fits all therapy. I believe in understanding your story, your family patterns, your cultural context, your strengths, and helping you build both insight and practical tools.
While my primary focus is supporting women, I also work with men and couples. Every client deserves a safe and honest space to heal, grow, and make meaningful change. Clients often share that they feel deeply seen in our work together. They describe me as warm, direct, grounded, and honest. I will sit with you in the difficult moments, challenge you when growth calls for it, and celebrate you when you begin to see yourself differently.
Women’s Empowerment
Throughout the year, I facilitate women’s groups, typically held on Sunday and Monday evenings at 7pm or weekday evenings at 7pm. These groups are designed to support and empower women while building grounding and wellness tools in community. The purpose is connection, skill building, reflection, and shared strength. Healing in community is powerful, and these spaces are intentional, structured, and nurturing. Learn about upcoming Women's Empowerment Group HERE.
