Brandi Hyndman, was born and raised in New Rochelle, NY, to a father who is a Medical Doctor and a mother who is a Registered Nurse. Growing up in a predominantly white neighborhood, Brandi faced significant challenges as an African American, encountering racism and prejudice. Despite these adversities, she developed resilience and a strong sense of determination.
Motivated by her experiences and guided by the emphasis her parents placed on education, Brandi pursued a master's degree in social work from Fordham University, successfully graduating in May 2021. Remarkably, she achieved this milestone while facing the hardships of homelessness. Brandi firmly believes in the power of self-belief and the possibility of overcoming obstacles.
Brandi's commitment to her community and the underserved population led her to a career in social work. Drawing from her personal experiences, she has a deep understanding of individuals facing life's challenges and actively listens to their stories. Brandi has worked in homeless shelters, providing counseling and support to young women dealing with mental health issues and domestic violence.
As a client care coordinator and substance abuse counselor, Brandi navigated the complexities of the shelter system, assisting many clients in completing supportive housing applications. Despite the demanding nature of her work, she finds it rewarding and remains dedicated to making a positive impact in her community, particularly within the Black population.
Being a Black woman, Brandi empathizes with the misogyny and struggles faced by Black women. Having personally experienced racism and discrimination, including physical assaults, she is well-acquainted with the challenges confronting the Black community. Brandi is passionate about providing services to Black individuals and has received training in motivational interviewing, dialectical behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy.
Brandi's previous clients speak highly of her dedication and support. They viewed her as a positive influence and a reliable support system. Respected by her clients and colleagues alike, Brandi's departure from her previous agencies left a void, and her clients expressed sadness at her departure. Born on her mother's 29th birthday, Brandi continues to make a meaningful difference in her community through her unwavering commitment to social work and advocacy.
