My earliest memory of my Aunt Doris was her and my uncle giving me and my siblings and mom a safe place to stay when we needed it. I remember her jokes, her warmth, her ongoing kindness. And many have experienced this kindness, support and love from her.
Educated in Social Work, she touched the lives of many mothers and children in her professional role, helping mothers and children to connect and bond. Her passions also extended to social justice. One of my favorite stories about Aunt Doris is about her participating in a woman’s right to vote march. Even in a sea of women it isn’t hard to spot her and her perfectly manicured form in the picture. As usual, she effortlessly stood out.
The mission of The Doris Prouty Foundation is to support people of color to achieve their goals in education, art, social change and climate justice. The foundation was created to honor our amazing and beautiful aunt Doris, who filled everyone and every space with love. Her unique, sweet, smart, funny and thoughtful ways will always be with us through the work of The Doris Prouty Foundation. A self-taught quilter and artist, a teacher on many levels, she helped people to learn, play, heal.
I am both honored and proud to be a newly appointed board member and plan to continue this amazing impact on the world and our community.
