Therapist Nada Simic, LMSW, is a dedicated professional therapist who specializes in providing compassionate support to marginalized women. Born and raised in Belgrade, the capital of former Yugoslavia, Nada witnessed the devastating effects of the 1990s civil war, enduring a life marked by scarcity and challenges. Her parents, both Serbs from different regions of the country, instilled in her an appreciation for the rich diversity found within her own ethnic group.
Nada pursued her education at Hunter College, where she obtained a BA in Psychology in 2018. She continued her academic journey at Fordham University, earning a master's degree in Social Work in 2021. Currently, Nada is enrolled in a 2-year post-graduation program at the William Alanson White Institute for Intensive Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, further enhancing her expertise in the field.
Nada's passion for counseling and social work originated during her formative years when the war in her homeland ravaged communities. Through her mother's work with a nonprofit organization aiding Bosnian refugees, Nada was exposed to stories that transformed her perspective on life, sparking a deep desire to assist individuals in transforming adversity into personal growth.
Throughout her career, Nada has held various roles in diverse settings. At Children's Aid, she provided emotional support to single-parent families and facilitated connections with other agencies to ensure appropriate care for their children. Additionally, she worked at the Metropolitan Center for Mental Health, offering psychotherapy to individuals with a range of challenges, including trauma, interpersonal issues, life transitions, impulsive behavior, anger, depression, and anxiety.
Driven by her observations of the systemic underservice and neglect experienced by marginalized women, Nada is passionate about addressing these disparities and helping the BIPOC community heal. While acknowledging that she has not faced the same level of racism as people of color, Nada, as an immigrant, has encountered prejudice based on her accent and country of origin. Over time, she has learned to embrace her "immigrationality" and cultivate curiosity about others' fears and biases towards those who are different from them.
Nada's clinical approach is centered around her clients, prioritizing their strengths and empowering them in their therapeutic journey. She incorporates various therapeutic modalities, drawing from her training in Psychoanalysis, EMDR, and TF-CBT. Nada believes in the inherent capacity for change and growth within each individual and tailors her approach to suit her clients' unique needs.
Feedback from her clients reflects Nada's warmth, empathy, and dedication to helping them gain a deeper understanding of their emotional struggles and relationships with others. Through her support, she encourages and guides her clients towards personal growth and positive transformations.
In addition to her professional pursuits, Nada nurtures a passion for astronomy and astrology, a fascination that has captivated her since adolescence. This unique interest adds a distinctive dimension to her life and allows her to explore the wonders of the universe beyond her therapeutic practice.
Nada Simic, LMSW, continues to make a meaningful impact in the lives of marginalized women, providing a safe and supportive space for their healing and growth. Her dedication, cultural awareness, and therapeutic expertise make her an invaluable asset to the Amira for Her team and the communities she serves.
