Simona Joseph, Counselor
I am an Afro-Caribbean woman raised and reside in Brooklyn NY. I received my undergraduate degree from The College of New Rochelle in 2018 and my graduate degree in counseling from Alfred University in 2021. Currently I am enrolled in Alfred University’s Certificate of Advanced Study in Mental Health Counseling (CASHMHC).
My passion is to serve underrepresented communities by providing mental health support to young adults and adolescents of color. I want to help people change their narrative and bring hope and empowerment.
I am skilled at coaching and supporting individuals and couples, by helping them hone in on skills they already have, to effectively identify and solve problems while achieving their desired goals.
I am comfortable with my race. I tend to give what I get from those around me.
Spirituality plays an important role in my personal life. Spiritually helps me govern what is right and wrong in my life. Many of my daily decisions are a direct result of my spirituality.
I have 17 years of experience in the social service industry. Besides providing therapy, I also currently provide services to developmentally and mentally disabled individuals. I chose counseling mainly to be the voice for the ones who have no voice.
I chose counseling to assist people in becoming a better version of themselves, changing their narrative.
My Treatment modalities include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Supportive Psychotherapy
The clients I have encountered thus far describe me as “Someone who genuinely cares, an unbiased empathic big sister”.
Presently, I’m developing my Life Coaching skills, event planning, and hair styling. Also, I’m developing a platform focused on adolescents and young women of color. A place for them to share their experiences, while receiving tools to develop their self-esteem and recognize their worth. This will resonate with them coming from someone that looks like them with similar experiences.
