Nneka Njideka, LCSW-R, Therapist and Clinical Supervisor
Ms. Njideka, a Brooklyn native with over twenty years of experience in social work, holds an MSW from New York University and a BSW from Tuskegee University. She is certified in thanatology, mediation, Life Space Crisis Intervention, and Trauma Treatment Groups. Ms. Njideka's therapy practice focuses on helping clients maximize resilience and growth, utilizing an integrative approach that considers the mind-body-spirit connection. She customizes therapy to address anxiety, depression, ambiguous loss, and disenfranchised grief, drawing from techniques such as solution-focused therapy, mindfulness, and meditation. With a strong commitment to social justice, she actively advocates for change and community volunteerism. Ms. Njideka's compassionate and supportive approach creates a safe space for clients to explore infinite possibilities and embark on a path to healing.

Ms. Njideka has practiced social work in the public, private, school, and nonprofit sectors. She earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) from New York University and has a Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSW) from Tuskegee University. She completed a three-year post-graduate program at the New York Institute of Psychotherapy Training. She holds certifications in thanatology, mediation, Life Space Crisis Intervention and is a Certified Practitioner of Trauma Treatment Groups for students through Child Mind Institute. She has practiced psychotherapy through various community-based organizations and healthcare settings. In 2017, Ms. Njideka was awarded and recognized by the New York City Department of Education, Office of Counseling and Support Programs receiving the Social Worker of the year award for Advocacy and Social Justice.
Her work with adolescents, adults, couples, elders and caregivers focuses on maximizing their internal capacity for resilience and growth. Collaboration is key to her approach where she develops a partnership with clients to help them freely express themselves, and identify appropriate coping skills to deal with challenging and sometimes new emotions. This allows clients to actively adopt positive self-care practices while creating a life they desire. Ms. Njideka utilizes an integrative approach to therapy assessing the connection between the mind, body and spirit and examining how this impacts mental wellness. Taking a genuine and sincere approach to connect with clients and understand their needs, she is described as supportive and safe which plays a significant role in her success as a psychotherapist.
Clients’ therapy is customized based on the individual client needs by drawing from a variety of techniques such as solution focused therapy, mindfulness, meditation and stress reduction. Ms. Njideka’s practice focuses on helping clients navigate anxiety, depression, ambiguous loss, and disenfranchised grief. She has experience facilitating end of life family discussions. Ms. Njideka has brave conversations with caregivers in preparation for life transitions. She also facilitates loss and bereavement groups for adults and adolescents.
Ms. Njideka is committed to helping her clients obtain tools to enhance their life. She is intentional in the participation of the healing process maintaining an empathetic and open space for clients to take a pause and explore infinite possibilities. She remains “present” while clients explore the optimal path to healing based on learning from the past, living in the present and welcoming the future.
Her understanding of the importance of personal and professional growth is drawn from her participation as a therapy client at various times in her life. As a black woman, Ms. Njideka is keenly aware of the impact that systemic racism has on the black community as a result, this drives her to be a part of the healing. Considering herself an agent for change, she has a long history of being a voice for social justice and community volunteerism. She served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader for six years and was a volunteer tour guide with the African Burial Ground.
Ms. Njideka is passionate about strengthening relationships within families and the importance of establishing a circle of support. In her spare time she enjoys the beauty of nature during her long bike rides and walks in the park. Combining her interests and passions, she is excited about her new Caregiver Consulting and Mediation practice.
